A Roman Wedding — Japanese Tailoring in the Eternal City

With architectural wonders and history woven into every corner, and with stunning vistas framed by the city's iconic stone pine trees scattered throughout, Rome evokes romance and grandeur like no other city. It’s no wonder Josh Bozin and his bride-to-be, Cat Spanti, chose the eternal city, and some of its most storied locations as the setting for their wedding.

Josh and Cat's wedding was a multi-event, multi-day affair — encapsulating a pre-wedding welcome party, an official ceremony and a reception — and their intent was to channel the charm and elegance of eras past but without any of the cliched classicism attached.

When working with grooms and couples on their wedding attire, we always want to anchor an outfit in its surroundings and style of the ceremony. Within Josh and Cat's wedding, there were three distinctive occasions: the pre-wedding welcome party, ceremony, and reception. And so, with their vision at the forefront, we set about curating one look for each occasion — each honouring a particular piece of Rome's storied past, while remaining firmly rooted in the present.

Set against the backdrop of the iconic Hotel Locarno Roma — one of Rome’s oldest hotels and a former favourite of Federico Fellini — the pre-wedding welcome party saw Josh don his double-breasted suit. Paired with one of our black pique polo shirts and matching black shoes from Maison Margiela (a gift from Cat), it was a decidedly daring look befitting of the eternal city glitterati hosted by the hotel in its heyday.

With sprawling gardens replete with Roman pine trees and palms, and winding walkways leading to breathtaking vistas of the city beyond, Villa Aurelia is a baroque beauty that perfectly underscores the adjective so often associated with Rome: eternal. And so, it was only appropriate that Josh’s ceremony suit — a classic black tuxedo with satin silk lapels and matching stripe on the trouser seam — was also eternally elegant.

Josh's groomsmen adhered to the same dress code and were elegantly attired in black tuxedos with satin silk lapels, complemented by our signature stud-button tuxedo shirts and matching white pocket squares. To set Josh apart, we tailored his jacket with a peak lapel and theirs with a shawl lapel.

The revelry of a Roman reception, however, called for something that sits a little closer to exuberant. Enter our off white jacket: cut from a blend of cotton, wool and silk from Loro Piana and masterfully tailored by our craftsman in Japan.
